Places to Play: Ohio Pinball Show

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter (or know me in real life), you know that one of my interests is pinball. I have to be honest, I started a post about pinball in Ohio MONTHS ago, and (obviously) it has not gone to “press.” I have gone back and edited the post SO many times and every time I think it is so hard to talk about pinball in Ohio in just one post.

I got to thinking, why do I need to limit myself to just one post? I don’t! This is when I decided to scrap the idea of just showcasing ALL pinball in Northeast Ohio and spend an entire post about some of my favorite places to play!

I know what you may be thinking…is there really that many places to play pinball? Answer: Yes! My friends and I often talk about how we never thought we would say “there is almost too much pinball!” I digress…

Where is a place to play this month? Currently this weekend is the Ohio Pinball Show! Only happens in North East Ohio twice a year.

The show started on Thursday and goes through tomorrow at 5pm. It’s $20 for entry, but well worth the price (cash only). There is over 150 tables all set to free play for your enjoyment. You can also take you hand in the tournament, $10 for 4 entries and $20 for 9. More details on entry and rules on the Ohio Show website.

Don’t feel like it is too late to go! The show is open today from 11am to 11pm and tomorrow from 10am to 5pm! You can totally pay at the door. Local to Northeast Ohio? Check it more details at the Ohio Pinall website! Maybe I’ll see you there!

Thrifty Life: Six Dresses for under 20

I would like to think of myself as a thrifty person. One of the things I don’t like spending tons of money on is clothing. Not that I don’t like to treat myself here and there, but I really don’t like spending hundreds of dollars on my wardrobe. Here’s my dilemma: I LOVE clothes! I find myself in a catch twenty-two. How do I get the wardrobe I want and not spend my entire paycheck? Solution: second hand stores!

I started shopping at second hand stores when I was in high school. My first job was at Plato’s Closet, a teen resale clothing store. Working there made shopping for clothes so easy! I would usually shop after I got off work on days I didn’t close. Plus, I got a nice discount! After I quit there, I started working at a coffee shop so my outfits shifted to jeans and black polos. I worked there for YEARS so I didn’t deviate much. This was also my band t-shirt phase, so I wasn’t purchasing much clothing.

Finally, after graduating college and getting my first big girl job, I had to learn how to dress “business casual.” Being on limited funds (thank you student loans), I had to reteach myself how to dress nice inexpensively. I quickly found myself at home again in secondhand stores!

One of my favorite places to shop is the Village Discount Outlet. I found the best time to go is Saturday morning right when they open. It’s not crowded and they often have early bird discounts. The secret is the half-off colors of the day. I always make note of the colors as soon as I walk in that way when I am picking out clothing I stick to those color tags.

I also stick to a budget. I keep in mind how much I want to spend and once I have picked out enough clothing to hit that budget I stop and that’s when I head to the fitting room.

My last trip I wanted to stock up on dresses. My budget: $20. I was able to find six dress and still be within my budget! Here is what I scored:

I was very pleased with my finds from my last trip! Remember to thoroughly wash the clothing before wearing! I think my next trip I’m going to try and score some jeans.

Do you have any tips to thrifty clothing shopping?? I would love to know!!

Update #13: Oh, how the goes by…

Well, hello there. I have to admit that I have by very bad about keeping track of the time these days. I was so amped for 2017, I had so many plans to kick off the year. I took my annual “start of the year vacation.” Then, I have no idea what happened! I’m staring at my calendar and it currently says “February 2nd.” Is this a joke? Obviously not. Time just really gets away from me these days. Not to mention I have been SO sick this week. I literally slept…for 24 hours. I don’t think I’ve done that, ever!

I really am looking forward to this year. I had a great 2016 and planned on making the next year even better. It started off great with a super hero pinball tournament a few weeks ago. Bucket list: Get gas for my car dressed like a super hero. Check. Although the night took a turn when I got a flat tire on the way home and my phone was dead. At least there are still decent people in the world. Thank you mysterious Jason who helped me change my tire at 1 in the morning. You are a life savior.

Anyway, I’m going entering into a new phase in my adult life right now, which I hope is going to help for the best. I need change. I’ve been stuck in a rut I feel like for the past couple weeks. Time for me to be on my own again (but not without the support of my friends and family). Unfortunately, good ole’ Punxsutawney saw his shadow so I have six more weeks of winter, but I make my own luck and spring cleaning will be coming sooner.

Tonight is casual pinball night. Got to get all the practice I can get if I’m going to make states next year!

Update #12: Why don’t you blog more?

Great question!

Hi! How are you doing?? I am doing awesome!!

I’ve been blogging for almost three years now and a lot of my friends still are shocked when I tell them I have a blog. I started blogging in 2014 as a way to keep my close friends and family posted on what was going on in my life. Slowly, it shift and evolved to something that I am still trying to figure out.

Believe it or not, I do get asked why I don’t blog more. I wish the answer was more exotic than it is, but truth be told I’m human too. I have dishes, laundry, a 9-5 job, and social life! Don’t get me wrong, I want to share EVERYTHING I do in life, but I’m only one person! As much as I say I’m a robot, I’m really not and I do require sleep sometime.

So what do I do outside of creating stuff and blogging? Another great question!
I’m a very eclectic individual!

I’ve been part of Cleveland Awesome Trivia for a little over nine months now. At my height, I was going three times a week. However, with the holiday here, I usually go on Tuesday’s and Sunday’s. I’m not going to reveal my current team name (because it’s sad and embarrassing and motivated by heartbreak) but tomorrow will be my second championship I have qualified for and am super excited!! I have been studying during all the free time I have!

I play in two pinball leagues. Belles and Chimes is my lady pinball league of Cleveland, which just had our season two tournament last week (I didn’t win, but I made the sashes!). My co-ed league meets at Stonehedge in Akron on Monday’s. Season five ends in a few weeks (we’ll see how I do!). In between, I also help organize Sirens of Stonehedge, the ladies tournament in Akron. Our next tournament should be in January. In summation (sounding smart), I play pinball at least once or twice a week!

Occasionally, there is a concert I like to attend. Last month there happen to be two back to back. Yes. I saw Good Charlotte (don’t judge!) But my favorite was Set Your Goals. Perks of being an adult? I have an income! I splurged and bought VIP tickets (#SYGVIP #All3OfYa) and I had a blast! Light up swords? Silly string circle pit? Mutiny? Best party of 2016! #10YearsOfMutiny

So! This is my life! I’m a social butterfly! Why don’t I blog more? Because when I get home my head hits the pillow and I fall asleep (or I watch Gilmore Girls).

#HereWeGo (I’m a Steelers fan too! Season ticket holders since 1986)

I want to be more present!! I’m still trying to find that balance? If that makes sense. 2016 was wonderful! I really made it MY year. Who wants to welcome 2017 with me? It’s going to be PHENOMENAL! GOLD BIRTHDAY!!! HURRAY!

Update #11: 2017 is rapidly approaching!

Hi. OMG! Where has time gone!

Actually, I do know. My time went to Gilmore Girls and pizza.

But for real, where has 2016 gone?? It’s December 7th (Happy Pearl Harbor Day) and I cannot believe that we are less than three weeks away from Christmas!

First off, I want to say thank you to all my family, friends, vendors and everyone who attended Small Lady Business Saturday over the weekend. The event was a HUGE success! We had over 300 people attend and it was non-stop all day!! It would not have been a success without out everyone support! Here are some snapshots from the event!

It went so well!! Thank you again for all your love and support! All three of us cannot wait till next year! It is going to be bigger and better than ever!

But seriously? Where has 2016 gone? I spent the remainder of the weekend posting my holiday products on my Etsy!

Sunday was a haze of Disney movies and Photoshop. I am still trying to stay sane as the end of the year slowly approaches!!

I have a few fun projects coming up in the near future I can’t wait to share!!

Update #10: Small -Lady- Business Saturday! Come Support and Visit!

Hello!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week??? I can’t! Soon, it’ll be Christmas, then New Year’s, then 2020.

I exaggerate.

But anyway! I posted about a month ago how I was going on a little hiatus from my site to focus on a few special projects. One of the projects I have been working on (shameless self promotion time) is a small lady business Saturday event!

This event was founded by two good friends of mine in 2015, and I had the opportunity to have a booth at the event last year. This year, I volunteered to help organize the event with the two of them. (Wow! I did not realize how much work went into it and I cannot believe the two of them did it by themselves last year! Kudos!)

Not sure when the small business Saturday movement started, but this event is similar in that it encourages patrons to shop local for the holidays but with one twist…we feature lady business owners!

I will also be vending at the event as well! Please come out and support not only small business, but girl bosses of Northeast Ohio!

You can find a full list of the vendors at our Facebook event page found here!

Hope to see you there!

Blog Update #9: It’s been a while!

OMG! It’s been a while!

As I was enjoying a cup of coffee and a much needed day off work, I realized that it has been a while since I posted an entry. I mean, it has been on my to-do list, however it keeps being pushed further and further down as other things come up that I don’t want to say were more important, just a little more time sensitive.

I blinked and August was gone. I blinked again and there went September. Now, I cannot believe that October is almost over! I seriously have no idea where time has gone! I’ve had so many plans and ideas an no time to accomplish them! I cannot wait to share them!

Just wanted to do a quick update and say that I’m not gone forever! I promise! I know it’s been forever. Holiday is usually a busy season for me so I may be slowing down on here over the next couple month (probably just till the end of the year).

I do eventually plan on sharing the reasons behind why I have not been present. I’ve been working on a few pretty big projects in addition to building my inventory for holiday. As most of you know (or may have read) I also have a full time day job that keeps me busy 40 hours a week, so life is one big juggling act for me. Although, I don’t know how to juggle so this is a bad analogy, balancing act? That’s probably better.

Explore Ohio: Favorite Brunch Spots

Whenever I am getting to know someone, one of the questions I always ask them is “what is your top five favorite food?” Then, of course, they ask me in return. I love food, and it can be hard to come up with your top favorite foods on the spot. Not for me: potatoes, breakfast, pizza, butter, chocolate. It took a while to nail this down, but I’ve been asked that question so many times!

I eat #1 and #2 on my list a least once a week. Today, I am here to share my favorite brunch places in Northeast Ohio (Akron/Cleveland). Author note: restaurants are in no particular order! (now THAT is asking a lot!!)

Inn on Coventry2785 Euclid Heights Blvd # 2, Cleveland, OH 44106

Art Journal 26 Before 27 - one year in iPhone photos (12)

This is probably our “go-to” spot when we am in Cleveland. They have a traditional menu, but they also have a few fun combinations! This is a pretty popular spot, so expect a wait at peak times on Saturday and Sunday mornings (10am – 1pm).

Jack Flaps 3900 Lorain Ave, Cleveland, OH 44113

Art Journal 26 Before 27 - one year in iPhone photos (27)

Calling all waffle and pancake lovers! This is your place! Jack Flaps features a diverse menu of both sweet and savory waffle and pancake recipes. I’m a little kid when it comes to food, so what do I recommend? The Belgium waffle with peanut butter mouse, fresh bananas, and candied bacon…yum!

Garrett’s Mill 4226 Hudson Dr, Stow, OH 44224

Art Journal 26 Before 27 - one year in iPhone photos (26)

This is my “go-to” spot in Akron. From the minute you walk in, you feel welcomed. Every time I have been there, the owner greets each and every person who walks through the door. Again, traditional breakfast menu with a few unique recipes. What’s so special? You have to try their ice cream!

XYZ the Tavern6419 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102

Art Journal 26 Before 27 - one year in iPhone photos (4)

XYZ in located in Gordon Square and is more than just a brunch spot. They are usually a lunch/dinner spot, butoffer brunch ONLY on Saturdays and Sundays. This spot is known for their BBQ, but they have a fantastic weekend brunch too! This is also a very popular spot, seating is first come, first serve so expect a little bit of a wait, but very worth it!

Nosh Eatery5929 Darrow Rd #2, Hudson, OH 44236

Art Journal 26 Before 27 - one year in iPhone photos (6)

My favorite thing about Nosh is that the menu changes every month, so there is always a different menu when you visit! It’s a very cozy spot and the menu is somewhat limited, so don’t expect to get your traditional eggs and bacon (not that it’s a bad thing!). They also source local ingredients and you can tell that the head chef is very passionate about what they do because the food is delicious!! Brunch Club Members beware: they are CLOSED on Sundays šŸ™

If you know of a great brunch place in the Cleveland/Akron area, please let me know!! I LOVE trying new brunch spots probably more than any other type of restaurant. I can eat breakfast for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! After writing this posts, now I am craving breakfast!!

Happy eating!
