DIY Recycled Washi Tape Home Decor Trash Can (4)

I love decorating anything and everything, and inspiration often comes to me during the weirdest of times. (in the shower, ordering coffee, walking my dog…) I was cleaning my bathroom a couple weeks ago and thought my trash can looked a little sad. Light Bulb! Why not use my stash of washi tape to easily update my pathetic looking trash can!

Here is what you will need:
Trash can (I used the one I already had rather than buying a new one)
Washi Tape (no specific kind!)
Cutting Mat
Straight Edge (ruler)
Xacto Knife

Project Time: 1 hour
Project Difficulty: Easy

First, you need to decide your pattern. My hand towels have this neat plus sign pattern on them, so I thought I would make my own plus sign pattern to match. Next, place your washi tape all along your cutting mat. I really didn’t know how much I was going to need, so I used as much as I could fit on the mat.

Then, using your straight edge and xacto knife, cut your strips in the sizes that you’ll need to make your pattern. I used two inch strips for my first three rows, and one and a half inch strips for the bottom row to compensate for the curve of the can. There may be some extra at the end, but that’s okay.

Now, begin placing your strips of washi tape in the pattern that you created! For my pattern, I did one row at a time and off-set each row. Like I said, the last row I used smaller strips since the bottom of the can is smaller than the top.

Now take a silly picture holding your finished product and apply a funny Photoshop technique! Makes me look so cool…until you see the remote shutter…ha ha!

I actually made this project about a month ago and the washi tape is still holding strong! Let me know how it works for you! I would love to see the different patterns everyone comes up with
