Sew your own pizza pillow!
You may have noticed, I love pizza! Who doesn’t?! I was rooting through my fabric the other day and thought of a fun way to use the scraps. Why not make a pizza pillow?! It was super easy and requires very minimal sewing skills. Trust me, I am a self taught sewer and if I can do it…you can do it!
Here is what you will need:
Half a yard of cream/yellow fleece fabric
Eighth a yard of white fleece fabric
Eighth a yard of red fleece fabric
Eighth a yard of brown fleece fabric
Scissors (or a cutting mat and rotary cutter)
Sewing machine (is that a given?)
Iron and ironing board
Needle and thread (brown for finishing)
Project time: 2-3 hours
Project difficulty: moderate (minimal sewing skills required)
Pre-wash all your fabric before starting – this will eliminate shrinking when you wash your completed project.
Fold your fabric in half. Using your fabric pen, draw your pizza slice on your creamy-yellow fabric to the size of your desire. Cut the folded fabric along your drawn on pattern, you should have two pieces when you are done.
Fold your white fabric in half, and place your “cheese” on it as your guide. Trace the edge of your cheese. Finish drawing your “dough” the rest of the pattern on the white using your cheese as your guide. Cut out (again you should have two when you are done).
Repeat the last step with the “dough” (white) on your “crust” (brown).
With right sides together, pin your crust to your dough and sew together. Take your crust and dough and do the same to the cheese. If there is extra at the end just trim it off. Iron the seams flat. Here is a good tutorial on pressing your seams.
Next, draw a circle on your red fabric for your pepperoni. Cut out. Use this as your pattern for the rest of your pepperoni. Cut out roughly 10-15.
Sew on top of your pepperoni to secure them to your pizza slice. I use a 1/4 inch seam. This will be the most difficult part. Sewing in a tiny circle is tedious and awkward. Just take your time. One you’ve done your tenth pepperoni…you’ll be a pro! Trim off the excess pepperoni. I only did one side of pepperoni. You can do both if you want!
Turn your slice, right side out and stuff with your polyester microfill. Using the invisible stitch, close your opening once your pillow is stuffed to your liking!
I hope you have fun making your own pizza pillow!
