5 Ways You Could Be Cleaning Your Home Too much

Wouldn’t you love to be told you were cleaning your home too much! Well, as funny as it sounds, this could actually be true.

If you clean your home obsessively – something many more of us do in the wake of COVID-19 – you could be overcleaning your home, and here are 5 examples:

1. Deep cleaning your home too frequently

Deep cleans can be very beneficial, but the average home doesn’t need to be deep cleaned more than once every few months. It takes a lot of effort to deep clean, and often, it simply isn’t necessary.

We also tend to use a lot of chemical-based products when deep cleaning, and persistent use of these can cause the surfaces you’re using them on, to degrade over time.

Why not leave your deep cleaning to the professionals, and have them assess your home and clean it according to its needs? This saves you a lot of time and effort, and for many, that’s worth the cost of hiring a cleaning service.

2. Rinsing before loading the dishwasher

Everyone has their own way of loading dishwashers, and it’s an appliance many homes would struggle to be without. Many people also rinse items before placing them in the dishwasher, and although you might think this to be helpful, it’s actually not necessary at all.

Not only does rinsing take up extra time, but it also uses extra water, and with modern dishwashers able to handle the remnants of food, it’s a step that’s both wasteful, and unnecessary. You can however, scrape off any large pieces of food debris before loading the dishwasher; this can save on water and time, and help the dishes come out sparkling clean.

3. Disinfecting all of your home’s surfaces

Following on from the pandemic, a lot of people have felt compelled to disinfect as many of their home’s surfaces as they possibly can, every single day. But, by continually using sanitizing and disinfecting products, you could be causing some of the germs to become resistant to such treatment, making regular use of them less effective.

So, while disinfecting door handles, light switches and other commonly touched items and surfaces is beneficial, it may not be if done every day, multiple times. If you struggle to resist the urge to sanitize frequently, think about swapping to an all-purpose cleaner instead.

4. Dusting every day

Nobody wants a home filled with dust; it can be bad for anyone with allergies for starters, and it doesn’t look nice either. But obsessively removing every tiny particle of dust on a daily basis, is simply a waste of your time and energy.

Instead, try dusting once a week, and if this isn’t often enough to protect anyone in the household who may have allergies, try investing in an air purifier.

5. Decluttering obsessively

Decluttering is great; not only for helping your home look tidier, but for helping it be easier to clean. But, by becoming obsessed with reducing clutter, and not having anything displayed or stored outside of closets, drawers and cabinets, can cause you significant stress and anxiety.

Try to strike a balance between leaving some objects out that you use often, or which you like to look at, and not having items taking over every surface.

Worried you might be cleaning your home too much? Why clean it at all when you can pay someone else to do it for you! Professional cleaners will ensure that your home is just as clean as it needs to be; nothing more, nothing less.
