Can A Woman Go For Umrah Alone?

From July 18,2021 women can go for Umrah alone and in fact this has become a common practice. Before this a woman can not allowed to do Umrah and Hajj without mahram. There are many agencies that organize Umrah packages for women and they do not even require you to be a Muslim. The only requirement is that you should be at least 18 years old and have some basic knowledge of Islam.

According to the Islamic law, it is not allowed for a woman to travel alone without any male companion with her as this could pose some problems for her.

What is a Mahram?

A mahram, or mahram is a term used in Muslim cultures to describe a close relative (father, mother, brother, sister, son and daughter) that a person cannot marry. When someone becomes your mahram, you cannot marry them; otherwise it would be considered incest.

The purpose of the tradition is to prevent members of society from raping each other and contaminating their bloodline genetically by making sure that they only marry those who are not related by blood.

How a woman go for Umrah?

Umrah is an important religious obligation for all Muslims but it is considered as one of the easiest forms of worship. Therefore, anyone who performs Umrah once in his life will receive great reward from Allah (SWT) after death.

Umrah has been prescribed as an act of worship by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said: “Umrah is nothing but Hajj but with some additional rites and prayers”.
